What Our Rugs Are Made From - And Why It Matters

We’re often asked what our rugs are made from - and why we choose the materials we do.

At the heart of everything we make are natural fibres like jute and wool. Both have been used in homes for generations, valued for their durability, texture and ability to age well over time.

Jute, in particular, is one of the most sustainable fibres available. It’s a fast-growing crop that can be harvested several times a year without the need for pesticides, making it a lower-impact choice compared to many alternatives. It’s also incredibly strong, which is why it works so well for pieces that are used every day - from rugs to baskets and tabletop.

Wool brings something slightly different. It adds warmth, softness and resilience, making it ideal for spaces where comfort matters just as much as practicality.

Our rugs are braided using traditional techniques by skilled makers, in partnership with a family-run manufacturer we’ve worked with for years. It’s a process that takes time - and that’s exactly the point. Each piece is made with care, using methods designed to last rather than keep up with fast production.

When it comes to looking after them, simple is best. Jute rugs respond well to regular vacuuming and light surface cleaning, while wool can be spot cleaned or dry cleaned when needed. With a little care, both materials wear in beautifully rather than wearing out.

For us, sustainability isn’t just about what something is made from. It’s about how long it lasts, how it’s used, and whether it becomes part of everyday life. We believe in making things that are kept, lived with, and enjoyed over time.
